Moles or Nevi, are a common type of growth on skin. Usually appearing as small dark brown spots, the size, texture and shape can vary.
In general moles are normal; an adult can have between 10-40 moles. However, some unusual moles can indicate melanoma. There are many criteria to look for:
- Asymmetrical shape
- Irregular borders
- Changes in color
- Large diameter
- Evolving in size, shape, color…
Consult a doctor if you see any of the above symptoms or if the mole is painful, itchy or bleeds. Moles can be removed by simple shaving without stitches or by excision depending on each case.
